Giorgio Ferrero was born in Turin in Piedmont, Northern Italy. For Ferrero food has always played a central role in his family
Ferrero joins Mascalzone with extensive background in the food and wine industry. He has worked as a Wine enologist participating in the opening of two highly acclaimed restaurants in Northern Italy.
His experience has allowed him to travel Europe extensively and to have worked alongside some of the greatest chefs and the best wine producers in the continent.
He moved to the US in the early 2000s stopping off in Washington DC to work with James Beard Award winning Chef Roberto Donna (featured on Iron Chef America and the Today Show) as General Manager.
Following this Ferrero moved to Aspen, Colorado to work at L’Hostaria with Chef Tiziano Gortan. Gortan was a student of Gualtiero Marchesi, the first Italian to Win the 3 Star Michelin Award. Ferrero’s role included sourcing wines for the restaurant’s extensive wine list.
The next stop for Ferrero was Las Vegas – one of the centres for fine dining in the US. Here he worked with another James Bard Award Winning Chef – Luciano Pellegrini and master restauranteur Piero Selvaggio, at Valentino Restaurant.
His final stop before joining the Mascalzone team was as Head Sommellier at Mastro’s Restaurant, Houston.
Ferrero was awarded for his work at Valentino, Las Vegas with the Wine Spectator Grand Award from 2008 to 2011. Among his other achievements Ferrero lists his time with Michelin Star Chef Vincent Pouessel at Aureole and managing a wine list of 6,000 bottles as his most significant.
Giorgio will be working with Elena Di Stefano who has been at Mascalzone Houston since the restaurant opened in 2014. She brings a wealth of experience in the catering business following her studies at Houston Community College.
Along with Giorgio, Chef Bruno Amato joined the Mascalzone team last month. Amato is also an award winning Chef, picking up the Top Chef Sacramento Award during his time at Il Forniao, Wells Fargo Center, Sacramento.
Amato has an esteemed record of working side by side with some of the top Chefs in the business. He was worked as Head Chef at Il Forniao, Las Vegas and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise on Italian Cuisine and Recipes from his native Calabaria, Southern Italy.
His specialities include hand made pizzas and pastas and his traditional Arancini de riso, lobster ravioli, along with a variety of fresh seafood and sauce pairings.

We are already taking bookings for Christmas Parties and have a choice of 3 Set Menus all prepared by Chef Bruno Amato – along with some tasty Wine Pairings presented by Ferrero.
