PlaceS to Drink Craft Beer in London
Mascalzone wouldn’t be serious about striving to be one of the best Italian restaurants in London if they didn’t always take pride in sourcing the best ingredients!
That’s why they import fresh tomatoes from Campania, Italy to make sauces and ragus, house make pasta for their ravioli and lasagne and prepare Mozarella fresh for their Burata.
The same holds true for their drinks menu.
That’s why they recently began to stock one of Italy’s finest boutique beers – Baladin Craft Beer – at Mascalzone Edgware.
Mascalzone chose three craft beers from Baladin to stock:
ROCK ‘N ROLL
First up is Baladin Rock ‘n Roll. This beer comes with the recommendation that it is best enjoyed whilst listening to rock n’roll music. Containing Water, barley malt, yeast, pepper and mainly American hops the beer boasts a distinctly Rock ‘n Roll flavour.
Baladin’s brewing skills are reflected in this refreshing beer. With cunning use of pepper that blends with the potent bitterness of the hops in a musical segue, it promises to be delight for beer connoisseurs. Best enjoyed as a thirst quencher or as an accompaniment to Antipasti or Olives at aperitif time!
Those who enjoy healthy and cultured drinking will get much out of Baladin Open. Famed as the first “Open Source” beer in Italy this beverage contains plenty of body and a delicate, captivating flavour.
The recipe is simple. Water, malt, hops and yeast. Usually simplicity is the key, and all beer lovers will appreciate the simple pleasures of a sup with a bottle of Baladin!
Keeping it simple again, Baladin present the first Italian beer made only with ingredients from Italy. Hence the Nazionale. Water, barley, hops, yeast, bergamot and coriander combine to create a harmonious and highly original taste.
Nazionale works well at pre-dinner cocktail time or as an accompaniment with any of the dishes on the Mascalzone menu.
Founder and master brewer Teo Musso founded Baladin in 1996. It all started with a pub and home brewed beer in the small town of Piozzo in Piedmont.
Musso learned his technique in Belgium (one of the finest beer making countries on the continent) with the help of a close friend and a bunch of second hand milk vats!
He then took his vats and his recipe back to his hometown!
After one year of serving up draught beer to the delighted locals of Piozzo, Musso began to consider expanding further afield. Super and Isaac were the first of the bottle selections. These were quickly followed by others.
He know produces more than 30 varieties which travel all over Italy and abroad. Each one boasts its own taste and image!
Musso’s contribution to the rise in popularity of Craft Beers in the best pubs and restaurants has been considerable thanks to his drive and passion for his artisanship.
Nowadays the demand for boutique beers has never been greater. Discerning drinkers always interested in new ingredients and production techniques can now find some of the best artisan beers available within easy reach.
Baladin beers alongside the foundations laid by Teo Musso now incorporate the best available technology to ensure consistent high quality output.
You will have plenty of fun working through the 30 Baladin recipes, what better place to start than with a delicious Italian Meal at Mascalzone Edgware!
