3 Mouth Watering New Pasta Dishes on the Menu

At Mascalzone, Houston pasta has always been a specialty! Bringing the authentic taste of Italy to Westheimer has involved a selection of classic Italian pasta dishes and some contemporary takes on some old favourites.

Typically this time of year is where Mascalzone update the menu and add a few surprises for the party season and festive period!

That’s why we thought it would be a good idea to introduce a few of the new gems to tempt you away from some of the old favourites on the Menu! Not only that but we have thrown in a few outstanding wines from the cellar to really complement these taste bud whetters!

#1 Pappardelle Ai Funghi

This pasta dish is dressed simply with sauteed mixed mushrooms, cheese, garlic and parsley. The house made pappardelle is allowed to shine in what is a super-tasty Italian dinner.

The Pinot Noir or Montepulciano D’Abruzzo make for excellent pairing. The tannins of the Pinot offset the density of the mushrooms and pasta while the herby flavours of the mushrooms and the parsley make a startling combination with the redolent taste of Abruzzo!

#2 Gnocchi Bolognese

These versatile Italian potato dumplings are beautiful baked or fried giving them a buttery melt-in-the mouth texture which works perfectly with this rich bolognese sauce. If you’re a pasta lover looking for something a little bit different, this dish is guaranteed to get full marks!

A good suggestion for a wine pairing is Chianti. With a strong, bold texture it is well suited for flavourful, well-seasoned sauces and ragus. Along with tomato-based red sauces, the Chianti will also work with cream- or oil-based sauces.

#3 Tagliatelle All’Astice

Discover the simplicity of a large dish like that of Tagliatelle with lobster. The Tagliatelle with lobster is cooked with seasoned pasta al dente with tomato sauce and with cooked lobsters divided into two parts. The lobster is cooked in a pan with oil and garlic until browned on the side of the pulp. It is then sprinkled with white wine and left to evaporate. Tomatoes, salt, pepper are then added and cooked.

Lobster in any dish calls for a richer, fuller-bodied wines style, regardless of its sauce or seasoning. However, avoid red wine as it systematically adds a metallic note that kills the wine. Whatever your dish, white is always preferable.

A suitable recommendation would be the Greco Di Tufo. With a wide array of aromas including hints of chamomile, pear, ripe fruits and dried fruits. On the palate the wine tastes fresh, mineral, structured and persistent and will compliment a lobster dish very well.
